Depot-Compress Gossip

Latest gossip in The Depot-Compress Historic District.

1)  I was told, not by the current owner, that the compress demolition is going to be delayed.  Why?  The $100,000 grant that was needed was not awarded.  What does that mean for the compress?  It means that it will be alive for just a little bit longer.

2)  The Depot is going to get a new fence (weather permitting)! If you see a lot of work going on next week that is what all the hullabaloo is about.  We are going to replace the 4' metal fence that O.B. Kerr put up somewhere in the 1940's or 1950's with a 6' wooden fence.  The height will be the same as what is seen in the photos below but we will add more posts and gates and the fence will be painted a darker color.

Another wooden fence that was put up between 1886 and 1930.

If anyone has any information about The Depot in the past or stories about their family travelling through The Depot give me a shout out at:  I will be ecstatic to hear from you.
