"It Happened Here" on the way to The Depot.

Some of you might have read "It Happened Here:  True Stories of Holly Springs" by Olga Reed Pruitt.

Despite the title I would be wary of taking these stories as absolute fact.  However, the stories are very amusing. If you want to be entertained by tales of Holly Springs lore you should get yourself a copy (current editions are $3 at the Marshall County Museum).  It might even be in your library since a microfilm copy has made it all the way to the British Library in London!  Whatever option you choose you will most likely be missing one story.

What is it?

The story titled "He Never Surrendered."

Why is it missing?

There are some rumors but no facts as to why.  The truth is that in 1950, shortly after the first edition was published, the copies for sale suddenly disappeared and reappeared.

The newly returned books looked the same but had two pages cut and a new page pasted in.

Later editions,  reprinted the abridged edition.  This means that the story of "He Never Surrendered" was lost to the general public.
